Okay, this is going to be a tough one. How does one quickly and concisely make the case for the veracity of the Bible – The holy Scriptures? It won’t be easy, but I’ll give it a shot. Here’s what we do know:
- Historical analysis has proven that – in the original languages – the words we have in Bibles today are virtually identical to the words in Bibles written thousands of years ago. It all comes down to ancient sources that have been discovered and comparing them with modern translations. In fact, based on sourcing, the Bible is by far the most reliable book of all of antiquity.
So that’s good. We know what was originally written as Holy Scripture is the same as the Scripture we have today. But that raises a second, and maybe even more important question: How do we know what was originally written was not just myths, legends and fairy tales. I mean come on, Jonah being swallowed by a fish? Noah herding all the animals in an ark? Jesus raising the dead? It all sounds completely absurd and ridiculous. And you’re right, it does. It sounds absurd in a culture with a chronic and habitual anti-supernatural bias.
You see, we have come to believe that humanity is the final arbiter of truth. That if we can’t see it, touch it, smell it, hear it, or taste it; it can’t be real. (See our post entitled “The God of Five Senses.”) We also have the hubris to say if we can’t observe it happening on this speck of dust in the universe called earth, that it can’t be true either. (See a second post entitled “The Story of the Football Fish.”) But the bottom line is pretty simple, it all boils down to this: is there a supernatural realm? Is there a spiritual dimension? So:
2. If there is a Creator, if there is a God; then there has to be a supernatural reality. Because, by definition, God Himself is supernatural.
And so I refer you to a third post called, “Something From Nothing?”; where we make the argument that because there is something now (called the universe) there always had to be an eternal something/Someone that created everything else. Read the post, it all make sense when you’re done.
In other words, there has to be a God. There is no other rational explanation for the existence of a universe that had a beginning. And if God could (and did) create everything out of nothing, then getting a guy in a big fish is no big deal.
Whew! See, that wasn’t so bad was it? But I’m tired now. I’m going to bed.
